There are many benefits to recycling, it supports the planet, it’s free, and it can grant self satisfaction.

One thing to note is, trash cans for weekly pick up cost a resident more money per every trash can. Recycling is a good way to dispose of recyclables properly without spending more, while simultaneously benefiting your community.

Whenever in doubt about what can and can’t be recycled, there are tons of resources available at your finger tips! All you have to do is search online or visit the Iberville parish sanitation website for region specifics

What can be recycled?

Paper:

White and colored paper!

Mail and envelopes,

Make use of unwanted Coupons too!

Wrapping paper! This includes the cardboard tube

Cardboard (but make sure it is clean of food or grease), this can be pizza boxes or shipping boxes

Magazines and newspapers, you can even leave staples(including special inks and gloss paper)

Plastic:

Water bottles

Take out cups(only plastic) ex. McDonald’s

Milk and orange juice jugs(once clean of liquid)

Clean yogurt and fruit cups

Shampoo bottles, body wash bottles, most plastic self care containers

Any container with the #1-#7 marking on it, with the recycling symbol

Glass and metal:

Bottles, jars, flower vases, and cups

Steel, tin, aluminum cans, even pet food cans when cleaned properly

Important notes:

Keep food and liquids away from recyclable products. If food and liquid is spotted, the whole batch of items will be tossed, which wastes the effort. Be sure you rinse out food and drink containers and let them dry before recycling.

Check locally for styrofoam, it is not recyclable in most places
